Sharp Talk: Vaccine Development and Distribution with AstraZeneca

  • 15 December 2020 09:30 - 11:00

  • Online (Zoom)

As COVID-19 continues its spread around the world, pharmaceutical companies have been working day and night for their shared goal: to develop a vaccine against the disease and end the pandemic.

AstraZeneca, a global pharmaceutical company combining Swedish and British innovation, is at the forefront of vaccine development. They announced on November 23rd that their vaccine is up to 90% effective. With this significant progress, they will hopefully soon be able to provide the world with a safe and reliable vaccine.

SwedCham (Swedish Chamber of Commerce in China) is proud to welcome Alec van Gelder, Executive Director of International Government Affairs at AstraZeneca in Shanghai, for this final Sharp Talk of 2020. He will present to us AstraZeneca's journey and progress on vaccine development, unique insights from a pharmaceutical company operating in a pandemic world, and their determination to make the vaccine accessible for all and at no profit during the pandemic.

Alec van Gelder is Executive Director, International Government Affairs for AstraZeneca. In this role, Alec leads the Region to drive national and regional priorities and supports regional strategic initiatives that enable AZ to establish closer partnerships with governments.

Alec joined AstraZeneca in 2011 as Global Director for Public Policy in the UK. He has also held roles as Director of Access and Affordability establishing and leading AstraZeneca’s flagship Healthy Heart Africa program.

Prior to joining AZ, Alec was Policy Director for International Policy Network in the UK. Alec holds a Master’s degree in Economics from University de Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium and a Finance Degree from Lehigh University in the USA.

This event is co-hosted by Swedish Chamber of Commerce in APAC and it's a hybrid event. You are welcome to join us online on Zoom.
